Spirit Possession return with their third full-length, Cathedral Speech, released October 2, 2026 through Profound Lore Records and Sepulchral Voice Records in Europe.
Across seven tracks, the Portland duo pushes its self-described Black Heavy Metal into a sharper and more expansive form. Spiraling guitar work and explosive drumming draw from first-wave Black/Death Metal while opening into longer, more adventurous structures informed by ’70s composition.
The album follows 2023’s Of the Sign… and is arranged as four initial pieces leading into a side-long suite. Rather than smoothing out the band’s erratic character, Cathedral Speech intensifies it through abrupt turns, dense riffing and a deliberately unstable sense of movement.
The lineup features S. Peacock (Black Curse / Ulthar / Mastery) on strings and vocals, with A. Spungin (Ormus) on drums and handmade synthesizers. The album was recorded in the S•P Dungeon and reamped, mixed and mastered by Colin Marston at The New Menegroth, The Thousand Caves. Artwork is by Luciana Lupe Vasconcelos, with layout and design by Dan Fried.
